Hassan: Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa became the latest neta to be at
the receiving end of footwear.
A miscreant threw a slipper at the CM when he was addressing an election rally
in Channarayapatna town on Tuesday. The miscreant, identified as Chandrashekar
of Kodihalli in Holenarasipur taluk, hurled the missile at the CM in protest
against his criticism of JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda. An angry CM said: ‘‘Put him
behind the bars for six months. If you have guts, challenge me openly.’’
Yeddyurappa alleged that Gowda was behind the incident. ‘‘His supporters might
have paid Rs 100 to the slipper-thrower. But the slipper fell in front of the
stage,’’ he added.
The police took Chandrashekar, a JD(S) worker, into custody. Huchchegowda,
Chandrashekar’s father, served as the chairman of Khadi Board when Deve Gowda
was the CM. Police said Chandrashekar was a rowdysheeter and has several cases
pending against him. He reportedly attended a rally in Holenarasipur and
followed the CM’s convoy to Channarayapatna. Condemning the incident, Deve Gowda
said the culprit should be punished.
Brick hurled at MP
Abrick was hurled at Congress MP from Amreli, Virji Thumar, during a rally for
party candidate Neela Thumar, who is also his wife. However, it landed near the
stage and Thumar was unharmed.
