Hassan: Karnataka chief minister B S Yeddyurappa became the latest neta to be at the receiving end of footwear.
A miscreant threw a slipper at the CM when he was addressing an election rally in Channarayapatna town on Tuesday. The miscreant, identified as Chandrashekar of Kodihalli in Holenarasipur taluk, hurled the missile at the CM in protest against his criticism of JD(S) chief H D Deve Gowda. An angry CM said: ‘‘Put him behind the bars for six months. If you have guts, challenge me openly.’’
Yeddyurappa alleged that Gowda was behind the incident. ‘‘His supporters might have paid Rs 100 to the slipper-thrower. But the slipper fell in front of the stage,’’ he added.
The police took Chandrashekar, a JD(S) worker, into custody. Huchchegowda, Chandrashekar’s father, served as the chairman of Khadi Board when Deve Gowda was the CM. Police said Chandrashekar was a rowdysheeter and has several cases pending against him. He reportedly attended a rally in Holenarasipur and followed the CM’s convoy to Channarayapatna. Condemning the incident, Deve Gowda said the culprit should be punished.
