METRO MAKING 100-M-LONG SPAN IN OKHLA

NEW DELHI : The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is soon going to add another feat to its list of highest, deepest and longest achievements.

DMRC is building the longest span ever on a bridge, which will pass over the Indian Railway tracks near Okhla. The bridge will have a hundred- meter-long span built over an operating Railway line.

This bridge is a part of the 20.16 km long under-construc- tion Central Secretariat Badarpur corridor, which is scheduled to be completed by September 2010 before the Commonwealth Games.

We had to use such a long span over the Northern Railways track as four differ- ent railways lines are passing below the bridge, said a DMRC spokesman. We are employ- ing `Cantilever Construction (CLC) methodology for its con- struction so that the rail traf- fic below the Metro corridor is not hampered, he said.

The bridge is being built using M-60 grade concrete and about 130 workers are engaged in the construction of the bridge.
